Kids on the Block Puppets![]() Brian and Joanne are happy to meet those who want to learn more about seizure disorders. They are also excited about meeting new puppeteers. Meet the Kids on the Block, Brian and Joanne, the Epilepsy Foundation of Idaho's hand and rod puppets who visit community schools and organizations to help people learn about epilepsy and first aid. Brian has a seizure disorder and one day while he and his best friend, Joanne, are walking to school Brian has a seizure. Because Joanne does not know anything about epilepsy or seizures, she reacts with fear and panic. When they meet again the next day Brian helps Joanne understand what happens when he has a seizure and what to do if it happens again. As the puppet show continues, Brian talks to the audience, answering questions about his disorder, his medications, what it feels like if everyone laughs or teases him. He lets everyone know that his seizures are "no big deal" and that the most important thing is "to be a friend". The Epilepsy Foundation of Idaho offers training to potential puppeteers. This is an opportunity to have fun working with children and other community members. Puppeteers are paid a modest stipend and are needed at all three regional offices. If you or someone you know is interested in working with the Kids on the Block puppets, please contact your regional office: in Boise, 344-4340; Idaho Falls, 529-3580; Coeur d'Alene, 765-9443. From elsewhere in Idaho call 1-800-237-6676. |
