You Are Not Alone: Parenting Your Teen with Epilepsy

On, Monday, October 24, the Epilepsy Foundation of Idaho lauched a six-session program for Treasure Valley area parents of teens with a primary diagnosis of epilepsy. The You Are Not Alone: Parenting Your Teen with Epilepsy program is designed to provide information, guidance, support, and to assist parents of teens with epilepsy. The six sessions of this pilot program help parents learn new strategies to better communicate with their teens about epilepsy and how to take better care of themselves. Parents feel more confident in letting go. In addition, an ongoing support network is established. Participating parents held their last session on January 23.

The opportunity to participate in this national pilot program is made possible through a grant from the Centers for Disease Control in partnership with the national Epilepsy Foundation. Because it is a pilot program, Boise area participants have an active role in shaping the final You Are Not Alone program before it is presented nationwide.
