Meet EFI President Karen Havey
Karen has been involved in the Epilepsy Foundation of Idaho as
a board member and volunteer for over seven years. Her
connection to the Foundation came about when the Haveys’ son,
Sean, was diagnosed with epilepsy at a young age. As Karen has
stated and modeled, “The Foundation was there for me and I’m
there for the Foundation.” She has participated in EFI golf tournaments, Mud Volleyball tournaments, the annual St.
Valentine’s Day Massacre, the client services committee, Epilepsy
Foundation HOPE education programs, EF leadership conferences,
and more.
Before entering the real estate field (Realty Executives of
Treasure Valley), Karen was a music educator. She has a Master’s
Degree in educational leadership and Bachelor’s degree in
elementary education along with a music minor and a physical
education endorsement. She has a passion for helping others buy
and sell homes and participate in homeowner associations. She
loves to teach children and adults. And, of course she has her love
of music. Karen participates in the Treasure Valley Concert Band
as a trumpet player in this community performing band. She is also
involved in the PTA Reflection Programs (fine arts education) and
volunteers in her kid’s school classrooms. In the winter, Karen skis
with the Vertigals, a women’s ski group at Bogus Basin. Karen
spends time with husband, Brian, and their two sons, ages 11 and
21, snow skiing and camping. The family shares in water activities,
fishing, wakeboarding, and boating. They dog sled with their
Siberian huskies. If there is a fun outdoor activity in Boise, McCall
or just about anywhere in
this great state, Karen and
her family are there. In
addition to her shopping
hobby, Karen likes to travel
to visit friends and family
in Utah, California and
Arizona.
Karen is very dedicated
to the Epilepsy Foundation
of Idaho. As a volunteer,
her smile, attitude, and
excitement are always
present. As the new EFI
president, she would like
to see more community
involvement and support. Karen’s goals include increased epilepsy
awareness and education in the schools and throughout Idaho. She
wants to see extended outreach to clients including under-served
populations such as senior citizens. She hopes to see an increase in
the number of Epiletter newsletter publications. Along with the
continued success of EFI special events, Karen hopes to expand the
funding base to include additional annual campaign donations.
Karen encourages everyone to support EFI by registering as a
member of the Foundation. Feel free to speak with Karen at
anytime.
