Safety and Seizures

Seizure Safety

An important part of safety for people with seizures is how well prepared others are to respond correctly and to keep them safe until the seizure ends.

  • Ease the person to the floor
  • Place something soft and flat under the head
  • Lloosen tight clothing around the neck
  • Turn gently on one side to prevent choking
  • Move sharp objects out of the way
  • Don't restrain, and don't put anything in the mouth
  • Time the seizure if possible
  • Speak calmly and reassuringly as he or she regains consciousness
